like one day the stalking leopard
or the zebra foal braving the savannah
our love will too become extinct

      love is not the exception
      a trophy behind glass
      in the well-appointed study

      every day I attempt to
      recreate the quagga
      working with promising zebras

one day I will cast aside
      my practice of taxidermy
and roam the future with her

Maybe not gone forever if ProjectQuagga can get it together.
