From out of the darkness comes a horror... 20060416_2848
Camping in the wilds is a wonderful experience, even when alone. However, wilderness is not always cute and sweet---it sometimes provides moments of stark terror. My stay on the Goose Neck was pure pleasure until this apparition confronted me at night, but I have little memory of what happened. I was so shocked by this sight that I froze in place, unable to move, and blacked out. That's all I remember.
So how did the picture get taken? I have to assume that a fear-induced muscle spasm moved my shutter finger. It was a miracle of photography.
When I "woke up," the horror was gone, my body was all tensed up, I was drooling, and my camera's film card contained a new image (this one). It was my very good fortune that in spite of this scary experience, Joe Tripod (my photographic assistant) was brave enough to stand absolutely still while my camera rested on his head.
