Building standards

This little device shows the building materials standards of Assisi in the Middle Ages. Bricks, tiles, and other materials had to be of the same size in order to pass muster with the city government, so on the outside of city hall these sizes were set into the wall as guidelines. The two rectangles on the top left are for bricks, as is the horizontal one below it; the curved shape on the right is for roof tiles.
