Crystal Blue Persuasion - Reflections of Mt. Dana & Mt. Gibbs

Late at night Mt. Dana (Left) and Mt. Gibbs (Right) relfect the last bit of alpine light into a crystal blue High Sierra reflecting pond. One of the many small ponds that dot the High Sierra in the early spring months.

I had run into another photographer (Steve) filming ice sheets still on Lake Ellery. The clouds had blown out and we headed down to Tuolumne Meadows but the light wasn't good in the meadow so I suggested we head back up the pass to this pond I had filmed many times and we headed back up Tigoa Pass to try it out. We stayed till late and we lucked out and a few clouds formed over the volcanic peaks of Mt. Dana and Mt. Gibbs which were perfectly mirrored in the small lake.

This is a long exposure (25 sec) and you can even make out a couple of stars that had started to appear above the peaks. This would turn out to be some one of the better shots of the day. Just standing in the near total darkness with a fellow photographer freezing out butts off while ooohing an aaahing at was was showing up on the LCD screens of our cameras.
