Modern Love

Last month, the Rhinestone Gorilla Burlesque took a well-deserved break (if February doesn't call for some downtime, I don't know what does). They return with Take Your Daughter to Work Day, a revue of pieces that contemplate the jobs that parents do. Or might do. Or might do in an imaginary world. Or once thought of doing. Or something like that.

Izébel Vivant appears dressed in doctor whites, with a stethoscope and blue rubber gloves (immediately I think of Firefly, but that's just how my brain goes). Beneath the robes she wears a snug white dress with a Red Cross symbol; beneath that, she is properly marked for P3 and P4 biochemical research, and adorned with streaks of gummy goo. Clearly, she's been consorting with specimens that should have been contained.

Lucida Sans, tonight's host, quizzes the audience when Izébel is done. "So, what was she?"

"Submarine Captain!" yells out one eager fellow toward the back.

"Correct!" says Lucida. "That's what we like, an audience that gets the subtext."
