Left Hand de Mars
Last night, a few small casks of Fuller's Vintage Ale were tapped in the better beer bars of the City.
At Williamsburg's remarkable Spuyten Duyvil, some of the Taphandle Regulars join publican Joe in assembling a vertical tasting of the bottled Vintage Ale from 1997 to the present.
Once we dispatch the Fuller's, with much gesticulating, note-taking, and brandishing of opinions, Joe lets on that he's got some interesting bottles that want tasting. Thus the 2004 Widdershins Barleywine from Colorado's Left Hand Brewing Company, aged in oak casks, and a lively Biere de Mars, also oak aged, from the Jolly Pumpkin brewery in Dexter, Michigan.
