I spend my afternoon (day off, birthday) at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, which turns out to be free on Tuesdays - a bonus. I was here ten days ago with the weekend crowds to see the cherry blossoms, which have all fallen. Today it is peaceful and blissful.
The tulips are fading, but still in flower; the hyacinth and azalea are blazing away, and in one corner of the Cherry Esplanade there is a glorious patch of outrageous peonies.
