Mater Suspiriorum

I first had the pleasure of being wowed by Kristina Nekyia a couple of years ago, when she was in town from the Left Coast for a few days and set a standard for me about just how sexy and exhilarating belly-dancing can get.

Which is plenty, if you were wondering.

And so it's a pleasure to see her at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekend this year, where she nabs the First Runner-Up spot in the competition performance on Saturday night. Her dark and luxurious routine is inspired by Dario Argento's horror classic Suspiria, which is pretty awesome in itself.

I'm situated a little too far back for the black-light part of the dance, which doesn't reach to the camera's eye. Overall I wish this shot were more crisp, but it was full-on monster-movie dim onstage - this image has been heavily processed into visibility. It was nice and sharp when it couldn't be seen. That's my story, anyway, and I'm sticking to it.
