White Pelican

Scientific name: 'Pelecanus onocrotalus'.

Also known as the Eastern White Pelican or the Great White Pelican.

Pelicans catch fish in their huge bill pouches, most, like this species, while swimming at the surface. They breed in swamps and shallow lakes. In flight, they are elegant soaring birds, with the head held close to and aligned with the body by a downward bend in the neck.

The adult has a mass of 10 kg (22 lbs), 160 cm (63 in) long and with a 280 cm (110 inch) wingspan. (Info taken from Wikipedia)

The photo was taken in 'Pelican Cove' at JURONG BIRD PARK of Singapore.

(No flash was used during the shot which may scares the birds)
