Tribute To Our Heroes 386: Looking Down

He stepped forward.

He knew that place.

He knew that feeling.

He knew that face.

A moment he stood,

Staring at sky,

Hooked up,

Ready to fly.

He remembered the day

Of his first jump;

The pound of heart,

The throat’s lump.

The training was good

Yet didn’t convey

The feeling of fear

Soon swept away.

As he exited plane,

The moment of hang

Time in the air,

His heart sang.

Then the plunge

And falling so fast

Air his brakes,

Chute jerk at last.

Then floating down

Sunshine in eyes,

Finding his feet:

Gravity applies.

Four years it’s been

Since that first time,

Joy in each ride

More than sublime.

He lived for the jump,

Time above ground,

Corp. Lineol signed

Another go ‘round.

He flew through sky

Sparkle in eye,

Serving his country

For whom he’d die.
