You Don't Know Jack
Falls Creek, Jack Main Canyon, Yosemite Wilderness, Yosemite National Park, California.
This image is part of my Yosemite set.
My friends and I backpacked for six days in this section of Yosemite National Park and once past a five mile radius from the trailhead we only saw two other people. So I think it's fair to say that this canyon is not often visited.
This area of Yosemite gets very hot in the summer so the best time to visit it is either May or October. May is "early in the season" and there's usually lots of dangerous water crossings due to snowmelt but this year this was not so much of a problem. We did have one crossing of this particular creek, a few miles from where this image was made, where we had to strip down to our underwear, carry our packs above our heads and cross about fifty yards of fast-flowing water which was hip deep.
This creek flows into the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in a stunning cascade known as Wapama Falls but before it reaches the reservoir it also flows through Wilma Lake and Lake Vernon, among others.
This is a stitch of two singles made with a Nikon D7000 and Tokina 11-16mm with CPL.
