Sierra Jewel

Headwaters of the South Fork of the Kings River, John Muir Wilderness, Kings Canyon National Park, California.

This image is part of my Sequoia and Kings Canyon set.

Dragon Lake and Rae Lakes are the origins of this stream which also flows through Arrowhead and Dollar Lakes before the descent down to Woods Creek and, eventually the South Fork of the Kings River.

Here is a small set of falls just above Dollar Lake. Fin Dome looms on the horizon and behind the trees are Mt. Gould, Painted Lady and Mt. Rixford which are just beyond the Rae Lakes. This area is absolutely gorgeous and showcases some spectacular Sierra Nevada alpine beauty.

On this particular trip our day's destination is Rae Lakes. We'll spend two days here exploring the area before tackling the grueling ascent to Glen Pass and heading down to Charlotte Lake.

This is a single exposure made with a Nikon D40 and Nikkor 18-200mm.
