Purple Haze

Sunset over Point Loma as seen from Coronado, San Diego, California.

Better on Black

Original and other sizes

This is the sunset on April 12th, 2012 as seen from San Diego, California. To the right of the sun is a natural rainbow-type phenomenon, refraction of sunlight off the high clouds.

I'm new to making images near the surf and I made a lot of beginner's mistakes including not being mindful of the surf spray on the optics. Lessons learned.

The purple color cast is deliberate; I made this image using a combination of two filters. The imported image had an even more purple cast and I changed the WB to remove some of it.

This image was made using a Nikon D7000 and Tokina 11-16mm. I shot this at 14mm (21mm FX equivalent) to minimize vignetting caused by the stacked filters.

Have a great weekend, everybody!
