Fragrant Panama rose

Belgium.

National Botanic Garden in Meise (Brussels)

Rondeletia odorata (the Fragrant Panama rose) is originally from and Cuba. Its common name is a misnomer because it does not produce a floral fragrance. It is an evergreen shrub, 6 to 10 feet tall, opposite sessile, ovate to oblong leaves with wavy margins, 2 inches long. From summer to autumn, it blooms with beautiful, fragrant reddish orange, tubular flowers with yellow throats.
