Limestone Men's Soccer vs. Mars Hill: 11-24-24
Following a 4-1 second round victory at Mars Hill on Sunday, Nov. 24, the No.1-seeded Limestone University men’s soccer team has advanced into the NCAA Division II National Championship Sweet 16 and will host Clayton State on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 3 p.m.
By virtue of winning the South Atlantic Conference tournament title, the Saints received a first round bye. Mars Hill made it to the second round after defeating Francis Marion in penalty kicks, 5-3, on Friday, Nov. 22. The score was tied at 0-0 at the end of regulation.
No.4 seed Clayton State (Morrow, GA) earned the right to face Limestone in the Sweet 16 by defeating No.5 seed Converse 5-4 in penalty kicks on November 24. The match was knotted at 1-1 at the end of regulation. The Lakers tied the score with 17 seconds remaining in regulation and eventually won the match in overtime on penalty kicks.
Limestone defeated Clayton State 2-0 in the Round of 32 last season.
The Lakers are currently 12-3-4 overall, while Limestone stands at 15-1-3. The Saints are 5-2 all-time against Clayton State and have won the last four meetings against the Lakers. Limestone is 4-0 against Clayton State at Saints Field.
