Pioneer 2M
Pioneer 2M, an 1961 test car. The first Soviet gas turbine engined record breaker and the fastest car in the Soviet Union at the time. It was built in 1961 under the guidance of I. Tichomirov. The body is in aluminium and the wheels of a magnesium alloy. It is powered by two gas turbine engines placed on either side near the driver's seat. The engines give 68 hp each at 50000 rpm. In 1963 the sportsman and engineer J. Tihomirov achevied a speed of 311.419 km/h at the Baskunchak salt lake.
