    Jefferson Lasher, a driver for the Ward Baking Co., had a sudden memory lapse while testifying at a state hearing about conspiracy (price fixing) among New York's wholesale bakeries.

    It must have been a cold hearing room. Everyone looks bundled up.

    Lasher was brought in by process servers at 4:15 p.m. on February 17th, 1915 and tried to slip out. However, the referee had him chased down and returned. At issue was whether he insisted that the stores he delivered to raise the price of a loaf from 5 to 6 cents. He did testify that his boss had told him to do so.
