    it's infinitely sad that this was bombed in WWII. Few of the new architecture is close to being as appealing as the old Arcade was.

    So nice to see some Dutch/Rotterdam architecture featured on your stream :-) With this shopping arcade, by design of architect J.C. van Wijk, the city council aimed for the grandeur of cities like Paris and Brussels. The 100m long passage contained shops at various levels, a coffee houses, a bath house and a hotel. In 1882, it was the first building in Rotterdam to be illuminated with electric lights.
