Covent Garden

In 1666 after the great fire destroyed many London markets, Covent Garden became the most important fruit, vegetable and flower market in the country. In 1974 when the market moved across the Thames, public outcry resulted in 250 buildings being preserved and Listed. It opened to the public in 1980 as a speciality shopping centre.
