Tandem Amsterdam 1920s

Newspaper clipping from the 1920s. Taken in the "old" Amsterdam Stadium.

My grandfathers father John, my great grandfather, worked in this stadium as a "workman". Jan was one of the many cycling fans who had ensured that the stadium got his wooden cycling track.

When the stadium was completed, it had a horse racetrack around the soccer field! A wish of The Board and The Director. Unfortunately for them the ground was ways too soft. A horse race is therefore never held.

The Stadium was demolished in 1929, after the Olympic Games. The wooden cycle track sold to cycling enthousiasts in Groningen.
