Shine a Light Neon Tour May 2014
Tom Rinaldi, author of the book New York Neon, led a fascinating tour of the neon signage of the East Village / Lower East Side for LESPI on May 8, 2014.

Most, but not all of the signage was historic, having been produced as early as the 1920s (Orpheum), into the 1940s (Veniero's), 1950s (Gringer) up to the present day (American Apparel). We learned how to tell what type of gas makes what type of color, how to date a sign, the variety of historic manufacturing techniques, and more. We capped off the tour with a light dinner (ha!) at Katz's delicatessen. Fantastic!
