THE TRUE LAST PICTURE OF PRESIDENT SALVADOR ALLENDE ALIVE. Photo by Leopoldo V. Vargas
This is the left side of Allende's last photo alive. The sixth frame, on a roll of six pictures, taken by Presidential Photographer and Chilean Air Force NCO Leopoldo Víctor Vargas.
The picture was taken at about 10:45 am in September 11th, 1973, while the coup d'état was in progress. It's the last picture at the end of Allende's tour of inspection around La Moneda Presidential Palace on that fateful day.
Here we see, at the right arm of the President, the Chief of the Palace Guard, Carabinero's Captain José Muñoz P., and behind him, the civilian carrying a gun machine, Hugo García Herrera (a GAP member, a.k.a Julio), Hugo García is one of the four members of the GAP that fought in La Moneda Palace, and came out alive after the coup.
The picture presented here was cropped on all sides. Is not the whole detail of the left side of the picture.
