Largo do Boticário
On Cosme Velho District is Largo do Boticário, from 1831. Its one of Rio's most picturesque squares, surrounded by the Atlantic Forest and the Rio Carioca (Carioca River). The colonial style houses rounding the square in the end of a small alley were built using material from buildings destroyed during the construction of Avenida Presidente Vargas in Downtown. Despiste it rich past, after the death of the old owner in 1995, it is almost completely abandoned today... Only tree houses are still in perfect shape.
