Looks right out of a magazine.

It really does. Mom and Dad truly designed their dream house in 1940, and it really was fabulous.

Is this the same room as the "Christmas 1940" photo? The panelling looks the same. These photographs are GREAT!

Mom in the new house, 1940

Yep, same room, taken from darned near the same spot. Mom's chair in the older photo is sitting just about at the same spot my sister is standing in this one. My folks built the house in 1940 and lived there until 1969, when they moved to a larger house so they could run their sewing machine/fabric business out of the house.

Jan, Grandpa Reed, and the tree, Christmas 1948

This one, which you also commented on, was also shot toward the same alcove, but in this one the bay window and wall don't show up as well.

I thought it might be the same spot. All your photos are so great!
