fallen fire

You have to view this large to see the detail.

After seeing David's photo I absolutely had to get a cascading water shot to call my own. The conditions have to be aligned for a decent photo of this phenomenon here. You need a fairly high tide to spill over the top shelf but you also need to have the water level in the channel low enough to create a gap for the water to fall. Seems like a contradiction of events but it happens when the water recedes and a big wave comes crashing down. You can see three more huge waves in tow as the ocean was furious, leading to a game of chicken whether to stay or run. It was challenging trying to get that perfect composition between cleaning the lens and trying to set the tripod back in the exact position each time I ran away. I took a few hundred shots to try and capture this perfect moment and if you can believe it, this is the only one that I truly like. As always, thanks for looking and commenting!
