    In the Outback, you either drive a car with great gas mileage, or bring a lot of filled gas cans, apparently!

    ... and when you do find a place to fill up, petrol is US$1.60 per litre.
    Believe it or not I came across a group of five young English backpackers in 38C degree heat (around 100F) standing around a 20 year old car they were travelling in that had a loose exhaust pipe which had melted their tail lights. No-one was wearing a hat. I don't know if they had water. What I do know is that one of the group had walked into a store in the town of Borralloola the day prior and collapsed on the floor from heat stroke.
