The business of costuming and photographing models seems to have fallen waaaaaaay out of favor these days. Maybe that has to do with the types of stories that are illustrated these days?

Interesting to notice, too, that the work and fuss involved in getting a good reference photo at the time (mid-50's) was considerable, yet not too much to ask. Whereas now it's the work of a few minutes with a digital camera to get any number of photos, and with a computer to stitch together the right composition from different elements. I wonder if people still do that?

r8r, I think some of the old school guys who are still in the business might go to all this trouble, but its not standard practice like it once was, for sure.

I shared space with an illustrator who did covers for Harlequinn Romance books and he did call up the modelling agencies for good looking couples. He'd shoot them in a variety of poses and sometimes make use of an old ref shot for a new cover.

Today, my friends who need a specific ref shot *might* go to the trouble of shooting it - if time allows - but often just set it up in Poser and use Google image search for environment and costume ref.

      So it goes...

Heehee - I like her gigantic false eyelashes - she wears them to bed, presumably....?

Beautiful, gorgeous line/figures - his foot hanging off the bed is just great = )
