6/5/10 - Fire Ops 101
RALEIGH - Fire Departments Operations 101 class for Raleigh City Council members, hosted by Raleigh Fire Department at training center, and sponsored by Raleigh Professional Firefighters Association. Class intended as "freshman orientation" to daily operations, risk, and rewards faced by Raleigh firefighters. Council members escorted by "shepherds" during all stages of half-day event, which started with fitting with full firefighter personal protective equipment. Classroom instruction included emergency medical technician and firefighter skill sets. Council members also attended demonstrations of haz-mat and USAR operations. After lunch, dressed and responded as Engine 14 and Ladder 4 to simulated structure fire in lower-level of training tower. Objectives were advance charged hose line, extinguish fire, search and locate victim, and resuscitate victim. "A" shift.
