Oh "deer" !
A deviation from my usual light work for a shot I've had in mind for some time. Spotted in the early hours of Wednesday morning after shooting "Arabian (K)nights", it was still there on Thursday for the taking (the photograph not the venison). Not a particularly pretty image so I won't be offende if you don't fancy it in your favourites folder ! However, I do like the contrast between the hard reality of the incident and the soft light tones of the car lights.
Always a such a sad sight to see such a magnificent creature stopped in its tracks by a car. Yes they damage crops and are menace to some but they are still wonderful to observe.
I have always been spell bound by these gorgeous animals and was fascinated to be able to examine it at close quarters. The long legs are so delicate, it’s a wonder they can support the body at all. The antlers, needle sharp and shiny as if dipped in shellac varnish. Beautiful blue / black eyes with delicate lashes, a pastel pink tongue and a jet black glossy nose.
I have seen these creatures run full pelt at a livestock fence, tuck in their front legs and dive like a missile through one of the small square holes before disappearing unscatthed into the woodland. Amazing.
Not the usual Nikon settings but f8 ISO 200 for 53.4s through a Tokina 11-16mm @ 11mm
Massive thanks to Spike for accompanying me on this project.
