I watched The Last Waltz the other night - the Martin Scorsese concert film about the last live performance of The Band. I remember seeing this for the first time when I just started college, and how this one film changed my musical taste completely and permanently (and of course I then discovered The Doors, the most amazing group in the universe and beyond that too) - I went full on into classic rock mode and seeing how cool Robbie Robertson was from the opening performance of "Don't Do It" was one of the reasons I wanted to learn guitar in the first place.
If you haven't seen the film, do it soon. In the meantime, check out this link of one of the most perfect songs I've ever heard: The NIght They Drove Old Dixie Down
If you want to see Robbie in full cool mode from the show: Don't Do It
Also, some bonus trivia: Robertson and Scorsese worked many more times together, with Robbie producing music for Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, The Color of Money, Casino, Gangs of New York and The Departed.
