Skylines No. 3

Owing to its historical legacy as a working port, New York City does a very poor job of giving the public access to the waterfront. As a consequence, it is remarkably easy for us NYers (with the possible exception of the residents of Staten Island) to forget that four of the five boroughs are not naturally connected to the continental United States (The Bronx being the lone exception).

It is only on rare occasions when we find ourselves out on the harbor that we can appreciate the city's intimate connection with the sea.

This particular image was taken on the ferry from Red Hook.
