Yale University's Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library

Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library

Designed by SOM in 1963

To emphasize the beauty of these rare books, they were set up to be the centerpiece of the building. All the books were placed around the core like a large display case. The exterior skin is composed of thin marble panels that allow light to show through but not damage the books.

Thank you for the cc-licensing this picture, I used it in a blog post about a wish-list, I wish for myself a library. :-) trotsigfrizon.wordpress.com/2010/11/04/fyra-fragor/
(Well, I wish for libraries like this for the rest of the world, too, and the picture is truly amazing.)

Thank you! I used it as part of background in my latest work :)

Fine for this special application (rare/valuable books, not for sale or lend) but I hope they don't start building libraries and bookstores like this. It's a book space for a post-privacy society if I've ever seen one. A hundred pairs of eyes on the back of my head while I browse? No thank you.

    so cool

agincourtdb I don't think one would go into the rare book and manuscript section of Yale University just to browse. If you're in there I think you're looking up a very specific book/manuscript.

The librarians are, I believe, the only ones who go up into the stacks.

Gorgeous image! Thank you for it and for the cc license. I used the image as part of a poster on television and libraries for an academic conference. I gave you credit, of course.

HI Lauren--I was wondering if I could use this photograph of the interior of Beineke Library for a website. Would that be alright with you?

Hi Lauren--I see that in your attribution license you permit use. If we use it, look for it at STORYhousepartners.com. Many thanks.

Congratulations on receiving more than 50,000 views -- that's quite impressive! Now that you've reached this major milestone, you might want to consider graduating this photograph from the 'Views: 25,000' group to the 'Views: 50,000' group, which can be found here: www.flickr.com/groups/views50000/

Once again, congratulations and hopefully your photos will receive many more views in the future! Reminder: Per group rules, photos should only be in one 'Views:xx' group at a time. Once you have graduated the photograph from one 'Views: xx' group to another, remember to remove the photograph from all previous 'Views: xx' groups.
