Urias and Sarah

Urias A. McGill and his sister, Sarah McGill Russwurm, daguerreotypes made by Augustus Washington in Monrovia, Liberia (circa 1854)

I've done some digital restoration and merged the two photographs to see how they would appear in the double case they share.

The original daguerreotypes are part of the Library of Congress holdings. You can find the original of Urias here:

www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2004664344/

and Sarah here:

Both originals were hand coloured, presumably by Mr. Washington. but I've made both simulate sepia tone. I've reversed the image of Sarah, because the lettering on her LoC photograph suggests it is a mirror image.

Both of these images are in the public domain, and so is my restoration here.
