Close-up of the Navajo Sandstone cliff, Glen Canyon, Arizona. We were in a floating raft on the Colorado River when I took this and our guide for the trip told us people often see what looks like a girl on a swing on this section of the rock. The red colour is due to the iron oxide hematite and the black colour is due to the iron oxide magnetite. This would have been a vast quartz sand desert in the Jurassic Period.
