Flamingo Tongue Snail in Profile

These snails are so pretty. All of the color, however, is in their mantle. So when you find a dead one, they just look like ugly white shells. Here's a nice profile taken of one using 105mm macro. Curacao, Netherland Antilles.

I humbly blush at your praise Kelpman. I think there are many great U/W photographers on flickr and I am hoping to, one day, attain their level of expertise.

And since I'm too cheap to spring for a 'pro' account, I must wait until April to upload more photos (I used up my March allowance). I have several more very nice frames of the flamingo tongue snail that I plan to post soon...

    Thanks for your kind words!!!

Lovely shot -- great detail. There's just a bit of distortion from the aquarium glass.

Fantastic colurs and nice effect with the snil in the background out of focus but positioned well in the image. Justr a slight loss of detail through the glass. Well done

Hi Judgment Day reviewers! Thanks for your time and thoughtful comments. I always appreciate it. Special thanks to "pinch reviewer" Rich for stepping in to provide my fifth score!

I waited until all of the scores were in before remarking... I'm not sure what everyone sees in this one. This photo was actually taken in the sea, at a depth of 11 meters. The only thing between the snail and my lens was about 15cm of water. I used a slow film, wide aperature, and extreme macro setup so that reduced the DoF. The snail in the foreground, about the size of my thumbnail, is in "pretty good" focus but the shells are not glossy because a thin layer of mantle-skin covers them. In any case, most everyone thinks this was shot in a living room! :-D

I'll try again! Thanks for your reviews. Judgement Day rules!

I love these, but never came across one
    It's a fave

Mona and Chris, It is too bad you didn't find one of these beauties... they are so pretty. Better than these are the "fingerprint snails," but I've never had a camera with me when I found one. Perhaps one day soon... Oh, and thanks for the fave! That's sweet!
