A classic Martin Theatre! Someone oughta start a group page specifically dedicated to the Martin chain. One on the Loews would be nifty as well.

Martin Theatres was the only circuit to have at least one cinema in just about any city in the south with a population of 5000 residences or more. The symbol on the marquee spells Martin (granted, it takes some imagination, but look at it for a while and you can make out the letters). They were kind of akin to the Loew’s circuit in that each theatre was state of the art, professionally managed, and possessed some distinctive indescribable architectural element which distinguished it from all others.
Some of the Martin Theatres include:
      Cobb
      Strand
      Wink
      Georgia Cinerama
      Capitol

There was also a circuit in the south known as Martin and Thompson theatres. I was always told that the symbol stood for M&T theatres. Thompson theatres home was in Hawkinsville, GA. The Thompson theatre is still standing, but now houses the newspaper offices. Lots of stories have been told on the old Atlanta film row about Old man Martin and Mr. Thompson.
