David Last Exhibition at Devotion Gallery NYC: Sprawl (2) 2011
The exhibition started with sounds, created in a software modular synthesis program. The sounds were graphed visually using an oscilloscope, and still frames of the oscilloscope patterns were captured. The visual audio patterns were projected on a wall covered in chalkboard paint, and a few lines were traced in light yellow pencil.
All the images in the random oscilloscope images were projected on the wall one after another. A light under-drawing was created, which created a framework for improvised chalk drawing forms which formed the bulk of the visual information.

The performance itself took place over two weekends, with chalk drawing done to performed music and audio collage by a number of artists including Ezekiel Honig, Nooka Jones, Praveen Sharma, Matthew L Betlej and Chris Malec.
