Venus Visible at Sunset

Newer Older

The transit of the planet Venus took place today - for the last time in our lifetime. Venus is about the same size as Earth, and about 38 million km away from us, and about 100 million km from the sun. Today, we were able to see the planet silhouetted against the Sun, and at sunset, it could be seen with a 300mm lens.
The next time this event will be visible is 2115!

Well the weather did not allow us to see it here in NJ, so I guess I will have to hang around and see it next time ;)

That is awesome!!! So cool that you got this. I tried looking at it through a tinted window....it was really really bright yesterday...not such a good idea...LOL. So I saw nothing BUT spots (the wrong ones) for a while. Nice job!

I like this beauty spot in the sun, like Cindy Crawford. Incredible how big the sun looks. In my mountain ambiance I never saw this size.

You had the opportunity for a great shot. From my vantage point I couldn't get it along the horizon. Oh well.......Maybe next lifetime?....

Beautiful capture. Couldn't see it here in Brighton, it was too overcast. Sigh...
