Mary Linehan Pictures
Born in Michigan, Mary Linehan was eight years old in 1925 when she came to Lantana. A 1933 graduate of Lake Worth High School, in 1940 she earned a B. S. in Education at Florida Southern College, Lakeland, Florida.
Mrs. Linehan served as a teacher in Palm Beach County schools for 27 years. Her career as a school librarian spanned a further 13 years. She retired in 1976.
The first woman president of the Historical Society of Palm Beach County (1979-1981), she was also a director of the Florida Historical Society from 1983 to 1986.
Mrs. Linehan published "Early Lantana, Her Neighbors and More" in1980. With co-author Marjorie Watts Nelson she wrote "Pioneer Days on the Shores of Lake Worth 1873-1893," published in 1994.
The Town Council of Lantana appointed Mrs. Linehan “Town Historian” in 1987. In 1992 The Historical Society of Palm Beach County gave her its Judge Knott Award for promoting local history.
Mary Linehan died on July 19, 1998.
