Long Toes -- Revisited (Explore 31 May 2013)
African Jacana Chick
This is an image of one of the chicks that I photographed previously, and posted earlier (see previous image included in the comments stream).
The two images were taken one month apart -- on 1 April and 3 May of this year respectively. While the chicks have very evidently grown, they were, at this time, still under the watchful care of the father and the family were still occupying the same area of water-lily field.
The scale is difficult to judge from the images, but at the time of this image, the chicks were approximately twice the size. The feet and toes are, at this age, still disproportionately large!
This image was captured on the Chobe River, near Kasane, northern Botswana, Southern Africa.
