At that time in 1762, they were really, as Butch says "bloody British bastards" for so much was their greed. Imagine even after the Governor-General of Manila at the time, Archbishop Rojo was able to raise a million pound sterling or two million pesos at that time by stripping the churches of Manila of their gold and silver ornaments as ransom to prevent the sacking of the City, the British still proceeded to raid the City, its residents and especially its churches and religious images of precious jewels, gold and silver.

Truly one of the darkest period in our nation's history.

.... If you visit an Anglican church, it is so spartan and with no images or statues .... probably a few stained glass windows .... you could just imagine how these British felt when they saw the wealth of the Intramuros and Manila churches ! ..... many of the army contingents were also Indians from the British East India Company ..... Mercenaries and Sepoys who later decided to stay and settle in Cainta and married the local women ..... mga Pinoy na bombay ! ....

Actually, aside from greed, they desecrated the images and churches out of religious hatred for anything Catholic.

yes Butch, the Sepoys of Cainta are the permanent "reminders" of these chapter in our colorful history.
