Blogger/Lawyer-turned-chef Mikael Jonsson's Hedone is divisive, with many critics adoring his pure approach (sourcing the absolute best ingredients and letting them shine through fastidious, classic techniques) and others just not getting it.

I've only had the chance to dine there once, on a recent brief trip to London, but it stands out as one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Not only was it enjoyable (the staff were attentive, fun and engaging), but the food is probably the best you can get in London right now (in my opinion). Some of the dishes were world-class, were others were merely 'excellent'. There was nary a fault anywhere in terms of the food or wine service.

I highly recommend you visit Hedone if you live, or will be in, London. The food may look simple, but looks can be deceiving.

PS - not pictured, but also eaten, was the best slip sole dish I've ever had: "Flame Grilled Slip Sole, Lime & Ginger Butter" … even better than at The Sportsman. Enjoyed it even more than the turbot dish here.
