The Spotted Pig
This charming (and now quite famous) two-story West Village haunt is a very pleasant place to sit and while away the lunch hour(s) on a sunny day...as we did. The food, however, did not impress me all that much. The signature burger was a big disappoint: although the meat itself was of high quality, it seemed to be under-seasoned, and whatever beefy flavor there was got drowned out by the overpowering Roquefort cheese...I just don't get the combination. The deviled egg was okay (the ones at Commerce are better), the oysters were very good, and the pasta was good but not life-altering. A pleasant lunch, but not as good as I had been expecting.
