090924 - LAFD Battles Chatsworth Flames and Triple-Digit Heat
by LAFD
CHATSWORTH - Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to the 22300 block of West Germain Street at 10:27 AM on September 9, 2024, after a brush fire was reported through the 9-1-1 system. Over 150 firefighters battled flames in extreme triple-digit heat, where flames quickly spread through the dry and pre-heated vegetation. Crews initially stopped forward progress, but a sudden increase in the wind caused embers to jump over the containment lines and caused the fire to continue to grow. Ultimately, crews were able to stop the spread at approximately 10 total acres, narrowly saving several homes that back up against the wildland. Three firefighters were transported to a local hospital in fair condition with heat-related illness symptoms. The cause of the fire remains under investigation
