Sawtelle Commercial Fire Burns Through the Night

At 6:13AM on September 23, 2024 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 2000 block of S Bundy Drive.

Firefighters arrived to find a two story, vacant commercial building with smoke showing.

Firefighters initiated a defensive operation against the boarded up structure, the site of a previous burn. Well coordinated and methodical efforts continued for the next 18 hours to fully extinguish deeply entrenched pockets of stubborn flames throughout the vacant and boarded 53,500 square foot two-story commercial building. The building sustained severe structural damage which required the careful approach to safely extinguish stubborn flames deep within the tons of smoldering debris. LAFD heavy mechanized equipment (i.e. bulldozers, excavators, etc.) were utilized for strategic demolition and physical hazard abatement. No injuries were reported during the 18 hour extended operation. Once LAFD operations were complete, the building was turned over to Department of Building & Safety.
