LAFD Crews Rescue 'Lucky' Horse From Lake View Terrace Sinkhole

LAKE VIEW TERRACE - Though skies thankfully cleared in Los Angeles, with the passing of storms that drenched The Golden State, there remained hazards humans, pets and livestock.

Such was the case during the noon hour on February 21, 2024, when Lucky, a twenty-year-old Paso Fino mare, suddenly sunk in the soft soil of her equestrian neighborhood yard in the 10400 block of Foothill Boulevard, when a sinkhole suddenly formed beneath her.

Los Angeles Fire Department responders, including those specially trained and equipped for Urban Search and Rescue, were joined by LAFD heavy equipment operators, the L.A. Department of Animal Services "Specialized Mobile Animal Rescue Team" (SMART ) and vacuum truck operators from the City's Department of Sanitation, in nearly three hours of well-coordinated teamwork that brought the 1200 pound horse to safety.
