Rescuers Pluck One Man Clinging Above River

WINNETKA - At 11:15 AM on Thursday, December 23, 2021, LAFD responded to reports of a man being swept down the Los Angeles River through Winnetka, near Mason Avenue. Firefighters searched down river and found an adult male clinging to an abutment. A member of LAFD's Swift Water Rescue Team connected his harness to a rope rescue system dangling from the end of the aerial ladder, while others set up safety measures down stream as a precaution. After being lowered down to the abutment, he assisted the man with donning a helmet, floatation device and harness, and connected him to the rope system. The aerial ladder brought them both safely back up to street level atop the bridge. Firefighter-paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital in fair condition.
