Jessica and Emily leap in the air to celebrate passing the $7000 mark in just three months of fundraising. Inspired by first-hand accounts of the lives of young girls in post-Genocide Rwanda, twelve-year-old Jessica set out to do her part to give them a chance at a better life through education by launching Richard’s Rwanda. She discovered that a young girl in Rwanda could attend school for a year on $35 and recruited friends, family and teachers to begin raising money for this cause. From bake sales to silent auctions, Jessica and her team have already been able to sponsor more than 200 scholarships. Their new goal is to build a school for girls in Rwanda by 2015. A prime example of how global problems can have multiple solutions in different locations, Jessica is doing what she can in her world to help girls in Africa because she understands their struggle as young women, even though their relative situations may be different.
