90/365 - Master Chief Reflections

View Über Large

Okay, confession. I am obsessed with the Master Chief, here. I am addicted to a string of short films entitled Arby & The Chief made by some Canadian kid who happens to love Halo just a little more than I do. They are short, they are poorly made and they are the funniest things floating around in the mass of stupid crap we call "teh internetz".

...assuming you have a love for Halo.

Here are links to the first few episodes. You won't truly appreciate them if you don't have a basic understanding of the Halo universe, but you might get a kick out of 'em anyway.

Episode 1 - Arby & The Chief

Backstory for you Non-Halo Bitches: The Master Chief (yes, the figurine) likes to play Halo online while his owner is gone from the apartment. In this episode he meets The Arbiter, who, in the game, is his enemy. Hence the scary music. They then compare Halo to Call of Duty 4, Halo's competition in the gaming market. Halo players are known for their deep hatred of COD4 players and COD4 players are known for not caring about Halo 3 players hating them.

Episode 2 - Recon

Backstory for you Non-Halo Bitches: This episode is about "Recon Armor", a type of body armor that Bungie (the makers of Halo), as of the debut of this episode, had yet to release to anyone. At the time, Recon had become more than just a type of armor to the Halo community, but more of an unobtainable status for which everyone seemed to yearn (and bitch about, relentlessly). In this episode, Master chief feels that he is entitled to receive this armor.

Episode 3 - Attitude

Backstory for you Non-Halo Bitches: Master Chief gets his Recon Body armor. The guys at Bungie saw episode 1 and 2 and actually awarded Recon to the filmmaker, the first person to ever see Recon. In the episode, Master chief shows off his new digs in matchmaking and then fights with Arby some more over "Cock of Dooty 4".

Lastly, the first episode is a bit difficult to get through. He's trying to both a) set up the character relationships as well as b) trying to figure out how to work a camera and light scene, so give the guy a break and give the guy a second chance with episode 2.
