Lampropeltis calligaster calligaster (Prairie Kingsnake)

Southeast Texas - Spring 2016

This prairie king was found in early May, crossing a road a couple hours before sunset. She was heavily gravid (prior to photos), and proceeded to lay 10 eggs just a few days after capture. Typically I find gravid females laying eggs in late June and early July, so this was a surprise to see in early May.
